Acute‑on‑chronic liver failure is a new syndrome characterized by multiple organ (s) failure and high short‑term mortality.

This review article focuses on the definitions, diagnosis, and different treatment options for this syndrome.

Patient education, anticipation, early identification of the acute insult, and early detection of chronic liver disease would be immensely helpful to prevent the disease.
