Abstract EN

Geography is one of the basic subjects of social studies; its main function is to study the physical and human phenomenon of the earth, the relationship and effects between them.

Our contemporary World today faces environmental hazards that require tackling them.

One of the most important means to protect and preserve the environment is through environmental education as a separate subject or infuse environmental topics in the subjects of schools, especially social studies.

For this purpose, the study aims at identifying the strengths and weaknesses of geography content.

The researcher selected a list of criteria as tool for content analysis and addresses it.

The result has shown that the content has general information about the environment but its level of development of environmental awareness is insufficient and does not raise awareness of Somali environment issues.

It also does not reflect the educational criteria standard of the content.

The researcher recommended taking into consideration the environmental education in the curriculum not only in the subject of geography, but also in all subjects.

This depends on studying the educational priority of Somalia aspirations and challenges to be based on preparation of a national curriculum.
