The importance of tourism sector stems from its intertwined effects on the economic social and environmental aspects of touristic destinations, in a way that the overall impact on local development depends on maximizing the positive effects and minimizing negative ones.

The Wilaya of Jijel has lots of potentialities that make her very attractive as a touristic destination , unfortunately the local tourist sector doesn’t reflect brightly that potential , not surprisingly it mirrors the overall poor situation of this activity in Algeria , so in order to rehabilitate this sector and promote its participation in boosting local economy , much focus has been directed to elaborate strategies to reignite this activity at local levels through encouraging sector related investments .

In this respect, a master plan to develop touristic activity in the Wilaya of Jijel is under preparation; hopefully it will play a key role in upgrading the local sector through special focus on building touristic infrastructure , encouraging related investments and facilitating funding mechanisms.

It remains that despite instructions emanating from the ministry of tourism and traditional industries in this regard , tourism investment programs in Jijel are lagging far behind schedule, threatening to thwart aspiring efforts of revitalizing the tourist sector locally.
