Abstract EN
The handbooks of procedure for the Inquisition were composed by differents inquisitors from the 13th to the 15th century.
Those manuals are a precious testimony to understand the juridical basements of the Inquisition, the different kind of heresy and the inquisitors’ conception of the ordo mundi.
Indeed, disorder would mean a complete break of the harmony of God Creation.
As historical documents, those texts inspired various authors such as Umberto Eco or Sonia Pelletier-Gautier.
But, even if they used the same sources, the image of the inquisitor depicted in their books are totaly different.
The way they entwine both historical and literary elements offers finely-shaded views upon a period difficult to deal with and often distorted by the collective mind.
The goal of this paper is to show how the two authors used the inquisitors’ manuals to (re)create a particular representation of the evolution of a witch trial.
This approach may be a way to throw a new look on the difficult question of « Obscurantism » as an echo of our own world
