In recent years, Liquefied natural gas (LNG) has risen substantially as a share of both gas production and trade.

Since 2000, global LNG trade has more than doubled while pipeline trade has risen by only around one-third.

In part, this reflected falling costs in the 1990s and early 2000s, as technical advances facilitated larger trains and transport tankers.

This article describes the evolution of the global LNG Industry and studying its effects on the global natural gas markets.
