Abstract EN
This study aimed to investigate the ability of mental rotation among bilingual and monolingual students: A comparative study.
And for achieving that the random sample was chosen consisted of (200) subjects whose ages were ten years of the 5th grade, (100) from two bilingual schools.
Half of them males and the other were females, and (100) from two monolingual schools.
Half of them males and the other were females.
The bilingual students performed three language proficiency scales.
The computerized test mental rotation ability were also prepared.
Validity and reliability of the test were achieved.
The task of the subjects was to rotate the shown stimuli, mentally, and to decide if they are identical or mirrored despite being shown in different angular disparities.
The rotation ability was measured by the number of the correct answers (accuracy) .
Results of the study indicated that there were statistical significant differences in mental rotation ability (accuracy) between bilingual and monolingual students in favor of bilingual students, no significant gender differences in mental rotation ability (accuracy).
Results also revealed a significant relationship between the accuracy and angular disparity, the accuracy decreased with the increasing of the angular disparity.
