Abstract EN

This study aims to develop bankruptcy prediction model which can be used by commercial banks operating in Algeria in lending decisions.

To achieve this objective the researcher formed a database from a set of financial and non-financial variables that have been extracted from the financial statements and supplementary documents listed in the loan request submitted by a sample made up of 60 borrowed companies divided equally to unstressed and distressed companies.

This data has been subjected to the process of statistical analysis using SPSS in order to determine the descriptive characteristics of the members of the sample and ensure the suitability of this data to the application of modern models used in the credit risk measurement such as credit scoring method.

The results of the study have shown that the accuracy rate of final prediction using our model is found to be 98.3%, which would help commercial banks operating in Algeria to rationalize the credit decision making process.
