Abstract EN
This study was conducted in the south parts of West Kordofan State.
It aimed at assessing and documentation of ethno veterinary medicine among Messiria pastoral ists.
Ethno veterinary medicine refers to the people’s knowledge, skills, methods, practices and beliefs about the care of their animais.
Four hundred and ninety three pastoralists from Messiria transhumance commun ities were randomly selected and interviewed during 2003-2004; structured questionnaires and participatory epidemiology methods (PEMs) were used for data collection.
Results revealed that pastoralists hâve very rich knowledge in ethnoveterinary medicine especially phytotherapy and surgical interventions; dystocias, embryotomy and fractures.
