Abstract EN

The objective of this research is to investigate the effect of water/ cement ratio (W/C), coarse aggregate content, curing conditions and age on the rebound number and ultra-sonic pulse velocity (UPV) of self-compacting concrete (SCC) produced from local materials available in Basrah city-Iraq.

Moreover, the relationship between compressive strength and both rebound number and ultra-sonic pulse velocity (UPV) is discussed.

The results and information will contribute to a better assessment of buildings made with SCC produced from local materials tested by nondestructive methods.

To achieve these aims, 20 different mixes were prepared, tested and evaluated.

It has been noticed that, the UPV increases with increasing coarse aggregate content and decreasing W/C.

The increment of age (from 7 to 28 days) leads to higher compressive strength, rebound number and UPV.

The curing conditions showed noticeable effect on the measured values of UPV.

Test results also show that, there is a good correlation between compressive strength and rebound number as well as UPV; it can be used to evaluate the compressive strength of existing building.
