Abstract EN

T his research aims at throwing light upon an important aspect of the translator’s work which is not less significant than the other aspects intervening in the translational process and text production in the TL.

The lexicologic and lexicographic performance of the translator on the text being translated is one of the most prominent steps undertaken by him to set the equivalents of words in the TL, taking into account all its linguistic, semantic and pragmatic dimensions.

Hence, the present study hypothesizes that an intersection between the translator’s work and the lexicologist and lexicographer ones exists, and seeks to prove that the translator -who approaches language at different levels, and its structural and expressive patterns- takes after boththe roles of the lexicologist and lexicographer: the first in collecting and classifying data, the second in setting and writing dictionaries.

Since the common factor among these is language, it was decisive to clarify the relationships that connect them with translation from the theoretical and procedural perspectives, and discussing the points of agreement and disagreement which mark the working limits of each field.
