Abstract EN

The aim of this study is to identify the nature of information and communication technology and their role in the development of the Arab world and to highlight the reality of the use of information and communication technology in the Arab world by addressing some of the indicators in Arab countries.

The study found that there is a set of disparate indicators that reflect the reality of the use of information and communication technology in the Arab world such as: telephone lines, PCs, exports of high technology, the availability of the latest technology, absorbing technology at a corporate level and the use of Internet.

ICT represents development opportunities that would accelerate efforts in order to achieve a global sustainable community development if properly exploited.It is to be noticed that there is a digital external gap between the developed countries and Arab countries -in some digital components only- while the Gulf countries compete with the developed countries in many of the indicators related to technological domain.

Within this study,a set of suggestions that would promote the use of information and communication technology in the Arab world has been presented.
