Abstract EN

The character or the hero, in particular, is the most important element in the structure of the narrative text.

It can be said that the character is one of the most important factors that affect the structure of the narrative text.

The presence and number of characters are directly related to the subject of the story or the novel.

It is like the backbone to which all other elements are related.

The character also contributes to the addition of movement and vitality to the course of events.

The character may undergo positive or negative changes that transform his/her attitudes and intellectual as well as psychological attitude, so that s/he becomes passive and unable to change things.

Accordingly, this study sought to address the concept of transformation that characters undergo in the collections of stories by Zakaria Tamer Al-Qasasia, using the analytical approach as a method.

So, I explained the lexical meaning of transformation by referring to a number of Arabic language dictionaries.

I also explained the motives of transformation, including: external motives embodied in economic authority, military authority )intelligence men(, the head of the police station and the policeman; as well as the transformation caused by unknown repressive characters, transformation caused by family authority )patriarchal authority(, and transformation caused by internal motives.

The study revealed the predominance of the external motives of transformation and their control over many of Zakaria Tamer’s characters The study also shed lights on the aspects of character transformation, including: the transformation in values and principles, the transformation in political stances and the transformation in moral attitudes.

The study involved examples of transformed characters in many stories, namely the transformation of narrative characters.

This is added to drawing on other examples of transformed models other than characters, such as: the transformation of objects, animals, events, time and space.

The study concluded by mentioning the individual and collective levels of transformation.
