Abstract EN

Quranic readings are among the various types of textual evidence upon which scholastic theology (the science of speech or ilm al-kalam) is based.

A number of scholars of the fundamentals of religion have given attention to these readings in view of their importance as textual evidence, and have defended their validity and used them in arguing about the issues of speech.

However, their argumentation has never been devoid of the idea of the presumption of lexical significance.

When the apparent significance of Quranic readings is different from other textual proofs regarding the same subject and from the principles of faith, theologians suggest presumptive interpretations of these readings then choose an interpretation that is consistent with their own beliefs.

This study seeks to highlight the impact of presumptive significance on Qur’anic readings in proving speech issues.

One of the most important findings of this study is the quadratic division of the semantic effect of Quranic readings on the subject of belief, as well as the explanation of the steps followed by theologians in using presumptive interpretations of these readings.
