Assessment of groundwater quality for drinking purposes for selective area of Bai-Hassan aquifer formation northern of Iraq

Abstract EN

The present study aims to assess the ground water quality using Index of Ground Water Quality (IGWQ) for selective area of Bai- Hassan Aquifer Formation northern Iraq.

The analyses results of parameters (TDS, Ca2+, Na+, Cl-, HCO3 -, SO4 2- , Ni, Pb, and Cd) were exceeded the WHO standard for drinking water.

Therefore, these parameters were chosen to calculate the (IGWQ) for groundwater in the study area.

The (IGWQ) result values were compared with (IGWQ) ground water classes’ type base on the range of Index values and shows that all groundwater samples in the study area belong the very polluted class.

So that, the ground water not suitable for drinking purposes according to (WHO) standard.

The GIS map shows separate the (IGWQ) values of ground water from sample location to overall study area.
