Abstract EN

Antarah, the son of the slave-woman ‘Zabiba’, remained a slave for more than forty years until he gained his freedom by Shaddad who claimed the former as his son to make use of his sword in warships.

The reality of -Antarah is confirmed in history as the Prophet Mohammed has once said that there is no-one from the pre-Islamic period whom he wish to meet as Antarah.

In addition, Antarah’s companions who embraced Islam have talked about him, and they recited his confirmed poetry.

On the other hand, nobody among the many who embraced Islam recalls Abla, and her lineage from her mother’s side is unknown, and the one from her father’s side is not lucid.

Her end is a mystery; the end of her love to Antarah and her death.

In addition, verified narrations do not mention her marriage to Antarah or to anybody else, and there is no accounts about her social life after marriage; as we do not know if she had children or not.

This study aims to employs the hermeneutic method to prove that Abla was not a girl from Abs tribe as it has allegedly believed in Arabic culture for more than fourteen centuries.

Instead, it argues that it is an allegory that represents the poet’s passions and concerns and by which he metaphorically refer to by using Abla as his muse.
