Background and Objective: to demonstrate the importantce and necessity of surgical management of patients with cardiac Myxoma to achieve best possible results.
Materials and Methods: 50 patients with cardiac Myxoma underwent surgical intervention at the cardiac surgery department at Damascus university during the period (2001-2011) Varied presentations, Diagnosis tools and surgical management were discusses.
Results: patients age (11-70 years),mean age (47 ± 13), female 30 (60%) male 20 (%40).
The location of myxoma were in the left atrium in 85% of cases and %11 in the right atrium and 4% in the right ventricle of cases.
80% of patients were symptpmatic with Dyspnea, Arrhythmia and black out.
The most important diagnostic Tools were 2D-Echocardiography and computed tomography (CT) Or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Conclusion: The surgical management of myxoma is very necessary to achieve excellent recovery and minimal recunence rate.
