Abstract EN

Background &Objective: It is to protect protection of the alveolar ridge from resorption postextraction and preserve it with adequate height and width.

This is considered one of the most important factors which facilitates the procedure of dental implantation and improves its results especially in areas of aesthetic concern.

Alveolar ridge preservation procedures have been introduced to maintain an acceptable ridge contour in areas of aesthetic concern that can be undertaken by preventing alveolar ridge atrophy and maintaining adequate dimensions of bone in order to facilitate implant placement and to reach acceptable prosthetical results.

This research aims to evaluate the efficacy of one of the techniques of socket preserving, which is the alveolar sealing with composite autogenous grafts that were harvested from maxillary tuberosity, in preventing socket from resorption of the crestal ridge vertically after teeth extraction prepareing for dental implantation.

Methods & Material: 24 teeth were extracted in 12 patients.

12 socket extraction were grafted with composite autogenous grafts after extraction immediately, and 12 socket after normal extraction without adding any graft or material which considered as a control group.

Radiographic vertical resorption of the crestal ridge were evaluated after three months of extraction in the study and control groups.

Results : After three months of extraction, the mean of vertical alveolar bone resorption was 0.35 ± 1.87 mm in the control group and 1.26 ± 0.25 mm in the study group.

Conclusion: Using composite autogenous grafts in extraction sockets for socket preservation which harvested from maxillary tuberosity reduces alveolar ridge dimensional changes postextraction in vertical plane, but was unable to completely prevent such changes
