Abstract EN

This paper studies the discourse, which followed one of social issues that caused a stir in the Egyptian society in the early twentieth century; the issue of sheikh Ali Yossuf marriage to the daughter of sheikh Elsadat without his permission, as a mass informational discourse spread through readable communication channel (Egyptian newspapers) which arouse the public opinion and influence on it.

This paper studies different reactions towards this issue spread in Egyptian newspapers.

These reactions are reformed by the public responses.

The study depends on audience rhetoric theory with Hallidays functions of language theory, speech act theory, and some concepts of pragmatics and argumentation
