Abstract EN

This study included 76 cases of vestibular schwannomas treated surgically between the years of 20002009.

The age of patients was between 2-76 years with mean age 36 years: Female constituted 66% of the patients, while males constituted 64%.

Large cases were between 4th to 5th decade of age, loss of hearing dominated the clinical picture presented in 76% of patients.

MRI was performed in all patients.

Tumors were completely removed in 76.3% of cases, deliberate partial removal was performed either in severely for decompression of brain stem or in an attempt to preserve hearing.

Anatomic preservation of the facial nerve was achieved in 83% of the patients.

Major neurological complications included 20.5% of hemi paresis, and caudal cranial nerve palsies in 35% of cases.

There were deaths occurring at 2-30 days postoperatively (7.8%).
