Our aim in this article is to uncover and reveal the symbolic and cultural connotations of the beliefs and rituals of birth in the traditional Algerian family, which reflect the vision of the social imagination of both the fertile and sterile female body through the duality of fertility and infertility due to beliefs that paint a bright image of the fertile woman in return for a very dark and cruel image of sterile women, And rituals that reveal the manifestations of gender discrimination in many of the family events enjoyed by males and according to which they prefer males to females.
