Under article 301 of the Algerian penal code, a doctor is obliged to keep confidential all that he has learned in the context of his profession.

the secret includes not only what the patient has given him but also what the doctor has seen, heard or understood.

however, whether for the public interest or for the private interest of the patient or his or her rights, the law provides for a number of exceptions to this obligation which allow the doctor to inform the administrative and judicial authorities of certain facts of a medical nature.
