Abstract EN

This article is mainly concerned with the transformations that «AlZawiyyah's» functions in Tunisia have experienced during the annual religious celebration, specifically, the shift from "Zerda" to festival from the beginning of the French colonization till now.

Of particular interest is Al-«Zawiyyah» of Sidi Ali Ben Aoun, Sidi Bouzid.

These shifts can be summarized in two phases: the "zerda" phase, which is overwhelmed by spontaneity, and the festival phase which is very often prearranged and organized in advance.

As a result, the functions are different: the "zerda" is dominated by the sacred religious function, with its social and economic dimensions.

The festival, however, is dominated by mundane, economic and cultural functions.

But this did not prevent some rituals from continuing, even in an individual and spontaneous way, coexisting, thus, with the spiritual, the religious and the worldly material.
