Abstract EN

The aim behind conducting this study is to shed light on the economic activity in the ^ govemorate of Basrah and identify the status of the workforce in terms of the entrants - < those who are economically active - namely, the employed, and the outsiders -those I who are inactive economically- namely the unemployed such as children, full-time ' students, housewives, sick people, disabled, retired and elderly people.

Firstly, we will deal with the concept of economic activity and the status of the , workforce as well as the employment status of the workers.

Secondly, the geographical ( distribution of the economic activity.

Thirdly, economic activity according to gender.

* Fourthly, economic activity according to age groups.

Fifthly, economic activity according to academic attainment.

Sixthly, economic activity according to the type of ( the major activity.

Seventhly, economic activity according to craft.

Eighthly, economic ’ activity according to work sector.

Finally, conclusions and recommendations.
