Abstract EN

This study attempts to trace the concept of time in the poetry of Ibn al-Mu'taz alAbbasi in light of the cultural references of the Arab-Islamic civilization in his time, and deals with his varied perceptions and use of time in eye-catching binary antonyms.

One of the most important findings of this study is that Ibn al-Mu'taz, who seems to be traveling on the same time path that other pre-Islamic poets followed, didn't base his views on the nihilistic vision, which preIslamic communities embraced, that time has the ability to annihilate and destroy.

Rather, they emanated from his own political, social and humanitarian experience and the disparity between his ambition and his reality.

Through investigating this phenomenon in Ibn al-Mu'taz’s poetry, the researches concludes that Ibn al-Mu'taz was a true Muslim who believed in Allah and his faith tended to strengthen and weaken like many other Muslims.

However, his belief was not solid enough to enable him to reconcile with this fateful dilemma
