The issue of pronunciation and meaning is one of the major issues that preoccupied critics and rhytoricals in Ancient and modern times, The debate was about their respective terms, and their impact on defining the concept of eloquence and rhetoric.

Perhaps the catalyst for this debate is where is the distinction between eloquence and eloquence? Or the meaning and its significance, or both, or the relationship that is generated between them? We have limited the dimensions of this issue in four directions: The first is the preference for words, represented by al-Jahiz and Abu Hilal al-Askari.

Second: the relationship between the word and meaning, represented by Abdul Qahir Jirjani and Razi Fakhruddin.

Third: unity of the word and meaning, represented by Ibn al-Atheer.

Fourth: the combination of the word and meaning, represented by Sakaki.
