This study aims at investigating the effect of a proposed instructive program based on critical thinking skills in Arabic language syntax for the first intermediate students.
To achieve the aims of the study an instructive program was designed.
The sample of the study is 67 first intermediate students chosen through a simplified intended way.
The sample was assigned to two groups: The experimental group (34 students) taught using the proposed program and the control group (33 students) taught using the normal way.
For data collection an achievement test based on critical thinking skills was used.
This test was validated by a group of experts in Arabic language, then a pilot test was applied on 26 first intermediate students outside the sample in order to get the reliability coefficient (0.81) which is usually accepted for research purposes.
The findings of the study show statistically significant differences between the groups in favor of the experimental group on α= 0.05.
These differences are attributed to using the critical thinking based program which includes skills like (priority or importance, sequence, explanation and deduction).
The study recommends that more studies should be conducted on other skills like listening comprehension and writing through using critical thinking skills.
It also recommends facilitating programs based on promoting critical thinking skills in other curricula.
