Abstract EN

This paper discusses the supremacy of prose over poetry ; in IbnAbdelghafour El-Kalaï, through his book “IhkamSanaat El-Kalam” (Mastering the Art of Rhetoric).

El-Kalaï followed a specific method of inference which is reverse inference.

He searched out the vices and disadvantages of poetry to deduce that prose is better because it contains none of these vices and disadvantages.

In his point of view, poetry is a call for bad manners, incites to lying and falsehood, such as making money, begging and encourages vanity.

Moreover, poetry incites, due to its rhythmic verses, to singing and singing incites to immorality.

As for prose, El-Kalaï thinks it is far from all these drawbacks and from calls for reviving the forsaken or clinging what is prohibited
