Abstract EN

The study aimed at identifying leadership styles as perceived by academic staff at the universities in the North of Jordan and their correlation with some variables (gender, years of experience, academic position, university sector and college type.

The descriptive approach was employed and a random stratified sample that consisted of 304 faculty members was selected from public and private universities in the North of Jordan.

A questionnaire that consisted of 30 items was distributed on the sample after verifying its validity and reliability.

The prevalence of each leadership style were as follows, empowerment leadership 40.1%, democratic leadership 30.6%, and autocratic leadership 29.3%.

The findings also showed that the leadership styles weren’t affected by variables of years of experience and type of college.

On the other hand, statistically significant differences were revealed at the significance level of α = 0.05 due to the variables of gender, academic position and university sector.

The study recommends conducting further research on leadership styles on different samples, in addition to utilizing other research tools in order to explore this topic more.
