Abstract EN

This paper focuses on the theoretical aspect of pidgin language.

It discusses several international theories of Pidgin languages in the context of the fact that some of these theories seems different than the actual reality of pidgin language in the GCC countries.

Through the discussion of these theories the paper presents some pidgin languages around the world as examples.

This work will be achieved by collecting and discussing data from two sources: first, works that dealt with pidgin language in general without concentrating on a specific area, Second, research and papers that focused on Gulf Pidgin Arabic.

The outcome is to provide a deeper theoretical understanding of this linguistic phenomenon to the Arabic reader.

In this context it should be noted that Arabic is lacking in pidgin language studies.

Furthermore, there is a confusion in the translation of the term (pidgin) and its definition.

Building a theoretical foundation of the study of pidgin languages in Arabic is very important.

This will help other researchers to take the study a step further by investigating this linguistic phenomenon in its linguistic context from different perspectives.

The examples include studying pidgin language according to the theories of second language acquisition and studying the possible effects between Arabic language and pidgin language.
