The study aimed to identify the most important cognitive needs for the mothers of children with autism spectrum disorders and to measure the effectiveness of a training program to meet those needs.

To achieve the objectives of the study, the researchers constructed a reliable and valid measure to reveal the degree of the cognitive needs for the mothers of children with autism spectrum disorder.

Based on the results elicited from the measure applied to the mothers of children with autism spectrum disorder, a valid and reliable training program was constructed to meet the cognitive needs for those mothers.

The sample of the study consisted of (30) mothers of children with autism spectrum disorders who were treated in the Special Education Centers in Assalt City.

The sample was divided randomly into two equal groups; an experimental group and a control group.

The members of the experimental group underwent a two-week training program including 10 sessions and each session lasted for an hour.

However, the members of the control group had not been exposed to any training programs The results showed that the mothers of children with autism spectrum disorder were weak at the overall level of knowledge of the characteristics of their children with autism spectrum disorder the measure for the two groups in terms of the degree of having such needs.

The mothers’ needs for the cognitive dimension was higher than the educational dimension whereas the characteristics dimension came to a low degree The results also showed that there were statistically significant differences in meeting the cognitive needs for mothers of children with autism spectrum disorder between the control and experimental groups in favor of the experimental group.

Thus, this was a clear indication of the effectiveness and impact of the training program in meeting the cognitive needs for the mothers of children with autism spectrum disorder.
