Abstract EN

The study aims to identify the effect of the intensity of the arid Saharan climate on 32 dairy cows of the Holstein breed in mid lactation in the region of Ghardaia (Northern Sahara), using the temperature- Humidity (THI) over2 periods of the year, including P1 (absence of thermal stress), and P2 (severe thermal stress).

On the basis of recorded meteorological data and the results obtained, which show the existence of a remarkable variation in THI values of 63.14 ± 4.36 at P1 and (87.85 ± 1.89) at P2, And which subsequently result in a drop in ingestion and milk yield on one side and an increase in the amounts of water drunk and the body temperature between P1 and P2 of the order of -3.03%, -20.24%, + 57.57% and + 2.95% respectively on the other hand.

There is a correlation between the climatic index and the parameters studied of which THI and dry matter ingested (r = -0.94), THI and water intake (r = 0.76) and THI and rectal temperature (r = 0, 66).
