Critical Reception in Saad Allah Wanos Theater “Rituals of signs and transformation” Play As a Sample .

The author “Saad- Allah Wanos” gave due attention to the target audience in all of his plays.

Taking into consideration the nature of the theatrical art and his dependence on "Text and Show”, his audience have been classified into two categories: the laymen (viewers who just watch the performance of the play on the stage) and the specialized ones (either the critical reader who thoroughly reads the play to analyze and ponder over its rhetorical devices or the director who converts words into a visual display).

Wanos has considered this kind of reception as the channel through which his masterpiece can reach his audience belonged to the working class.

The question of this research is: how did critics receive Wanos’s masterpieces especially “Rituals of signs and transformation” Play which was a kind of breaking the normal by addressing the working class, bringing to their attention them political tricks and inciting them to launch a revolution against the suppressive political powers.

The play has been targeting to explore the self and discover its falseness.

The play was like breaking the normal in reception and omitting to discuss taboos of the Arab societies: religion, sex and politics which revealed the corruption of the political and religious powers when they suppress the one and force him to yield and destroy his true identity.

Moreover, the paper endeavors to read the text of “Rituals of signs and transformation” a meta reading to figure out the intellectual links between it in one hand and “King Is the King” and “A day of our time” plays on the other hand.
