Abstract EN

This study examined the effect of natural characteristics on vegetation patterns in the Amman-Zarqa basin.

Analytical approach has been used to analyze and classify the vegetation patterns.

Landsat 8 (spatial isolation 30m), DEM model, weather data (temperatures and precipitation amounts) and GIS maps were used to produce natural characteristics maps.

In addition, to derive the map of agricultural crops based on (NDVI) derived from the satellite data of the Amman-Zarqa image in August 2017 with field observations.

The results of this study indicate that the total area of vegetation in Amman-Zarqa basin is 357.58 km 2.

Agricultural crops in Amman-Zarqa basin have been subdivided according to their natural characteristics to: rainfed crops in north and north-west regions (900-1000 m) above sea level.

This area is characterize by rainfall ranging from 300-450 mm per year and an average temperatures ranging between (17-20) ° C On the other hand, the cultivated irrigated crops located in the eastern and central regions of the basin with ground elevation ranging between 600-700m above sea level.

Rainfall for this area is ranging between > 150 to 300 mm annually, and an average annual temperatures between (23-26) °C From a results from this study, it is recommended to use and rely on geographic information systems and remote sensing for producing and updating maps of vegetation cover and natural characteristics and their spatial distribution in other basin.
