Abstract EN

Aboul kacem Saadallah, an Algerian historian, described the Algerian Cultural History during The Ottmen era in his Encyclopedia as quite poor in terms of its progress in arts ,medicine and astronomy, in comparison to some other sciences like Theology , Litterature and Suffism .

So, that may have led many foreign European travelers and consels to condemn the Algerian scholars for their lack of interest in medicine and Pharmacy which prompted widespread practice of traditional Medicine, wichcraft and sorcery.

Despite these harsh criticism , we find that some of the Algerian scholar’s writtings were not to be totally devoid of some level of innovation and interest in human health and rather had benifited society in general at that time.

Thus,we will focus our study on two important attributions ;The first one was the symbol book relating to herbs and drugs by Abderrazaq Ibn Hamadouch Al-Djaza’Iri who was considered by Dr.

Lucien Leclerc as the last ideal representative of the arab medicine.

The second book was about the protection from epedimics that was written by Hamdan Ibn Ottman Khouja, whom he gifted to the Ottman Sultan Mahmoud II (1808-1839).
