Abstract EN

The study aimed to identify the levels of psychological reactance and social acceptance according to the two variables of gender and stage of education, as well as identifying the nature of the relationship between the variables of gender and stage of education.

the study’s arandom sample, consisted of 432 male and female students, and was evenly distributed, according to the variables of gender and stage of education, to students who consistently attended high schools in the center of erbil city for the academic year 2017-2018.

the study depended on two tools, which were tested for reliability and validity; the tools used are: the scale of reactance which was prepared by (lami, 2001) and later revised by (abdul ahad, 2005), and the scale of social acceptance prepared by this study’s two researchers.

the results showed that the level of psychological reactance of the high school students is low, and that those students enjoy a good level of social acceptance.

statistical differences in the level of reactance were apparent between the male and female gender, to the advantage of males.

while there were no statistical differences in the level of psychological reactance according the variables of stage of education.

the results also did not show any differences in the level of social acceptance according to the variables of gender or stage of education.

there was also a statistical negative correlation relationship between reactance and social acceptance.

considering the results, several suggestions and proposals have been presented.
