Abstract EN
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of patients with sacrococcygeal pilonidal sinus using the Karydakis flap technique in terms of postoperative complications, recurrence and time off work.
Methods: A total of 35 patients as descriptive case series study with Sacrococcygeal pilonial sinus were treated by Karydakis flap technique during the period from 1st February 2011 till 30th December 2015.
Patients were evaluated with respect to age, gender, clinical presentation, history of pilonidal sinus surgery, early postoperative complications, recurrence rate and time off work.
Results: There were 28 (80%) male and 7 (20%) female patients.
The mean age of the patients was 25±4.79 years.
The most frequent symptom was seropurulent discharge (54.2%).
Postoperative morbidity was noted in 4 patients (11.3%).
Time off work was 28 days.
Follow up ranged from 12 to 60 months, with a median of 30 months.
Recurrence was not observed in any current patient during the follow up period.
Conclusions: Karydakis flap procedure is a safe and simple surgical treatment of sacrococcygeal pilonidal sinus, owing to the associated low complication rate, recurrence and short time off work.
