Abstract AR
Abstract EN
El-Sharkya governorate lies on one of main migratory bird's flyways in Egypt.
Six locations were determined as best capturing sits for the migrant birds.
A total of 100 migratory birds (50 Turtle doves and 50 Spanish sparrows) were captured alive to study the role of migrant birds in transmission of Chlamydophila psittaci.
Physical examination was performed to the target birds ; they did'nt show any clinical signs and were considered apparently healthy.
Serum samples were collected from all investigated birds and examined serologically by Complement Fixation Test (CFT) ; out of them 17 % had antibodies against Chlamydophila psittaci.
Ten blood samples of the serologically positive cases were subjected to polymerase chain reaction (PCR), showed positive results for Chlamydophila psittaci at 119bp.This result proved that the PCR technique was found to be rapid, specific, reliable and sensitive technique for detection of Chlamydophila psittaci in wild birds.
Migrant birds were found to play a significant role in transmission of Chlamydophila psittaci so, in the future to avoid transmission of Chlamydophila psittaci or other infectious agents to our domesticated animals.
we recommend thatanimals or poultry farms must be build away from migratory bird's flyways.
