Abstract EN

Argumatative connectors are descriptive particles which are used to express arguments and conclusions.

They link two or more statements or arguments and assign a certain argumentative role to each statement according to the discoursal context.

They include argumentative coordination conjunctions, argumentative contrast conjunctions, reason conjunctions.

The argumentative value of these conjunctions can be known from the discoursal context.

The study aims at exploring these conjunctions in 'Heya Ummi' (meaning She is My Mother), a poem by Abdulrahman Alashmawi.

Alashmawi is a contemporary Saudi poet whose poems pay much attention to women in general.

This poem represents more an emotional experience than a poetic one.

It is also close to my personal experience.
