Abstract EN

Within the body, there are many different systems that work together to ensure proper and optimal functioning.

One of these systems is that of the gut-brain axis.

The digestive system is a complex system in which feedback is required.

Due to a variety of communication networks, the gut-brain axis is able to provide feedback and regulate many aspects of the digestive system.

Here a review of the function of the digestive system will occur.

Then a review of the gut-brain axis and the specific communication pathways will be explored.

Next, the hormonal regulation of food intake will be explored.

Then, a discussion of the gut microbiome and its role in the gut-brain axis will occur.

In particular, the ways in which the gut microbiome is able to influence the brain will be explored.

Finally, a discussion of the role of the gut microbiome in the gut-brain axis will be explored.
