Abstract EN

This paper reviews the impact of the financial abundance in Arab and African rich countries on its political realities, and discusses more specifically the underlying relationship between the increase in incomes from exporting oil & gas and the lack of democratic practices within these countries.

The supporters of the "resource curse" approach argues that the wealth created by the export of natural resources impedes democratic transition, because this kind of wealth that was not created through production processes of the national economy gives the ruling elites extra options to enhance their position at the top of the pyramid of power.

So, the main question of this paper is: How much explanatory value provided by the "resource curse" approach to the lack of democracy in the Arab and African countries?
