Nasotracheal intubation is contraindicated for maxillofacial injuries associated with fractures of the skull base.
Surgical repair may require intermaxillary blocking which contraindicate orotracheal intubation.
Sub mental intubation is an interesting alternative to tracheotomy.
This type of intubation was used at the maxillofacial surgery block in 17 patients with mandibular fracture requiring blockage associated with fracture of the skull base.
Most lesions were Lefort II fractures.
The average time of realization is of 10 minutes (extremes: 7-15 minutes).
The average duration of intubation was 25 hours (range: 6-48 hours).
There were no intraoperative complications.
In Postoperative, the only complication we had was infection at the incision site in only one patient.

Lors des traumatismes maxillo-faciaux associés à des fractures de la base du crâne, l’intubation nasotrachéale est contre indiquée.
La réparation chirurgicale peut nécessiter un blocage intermaxillaire contre indiquant l’intubation orotrachéale.
L’intubation sous mentale est une alternative intéressante à la trachéotomie.
Ce type d'intubation a été utilisé au bloc de chirurgie maxillo-faciale chez 17 patients victimes de fracture mandibulaire nécessitant un blocage associée à une fracture de la base du crâne contre indiquant l’intubation nasotrachéale.
La plupart des lésions étaient des fractures Lefort II.
Le temps moyen de réalisation était de 10 minutes (extrêmes : 7-15 minutes).
La durée moyenne de l’intubation a été de 25 heures (extrêmes :6-48heures).
Il n'y a eu aucune complication peropératoire.
En postopératoire, la seule complication que nous ayons eue, a été l’infection au site de l’incision chez un seul patient.
