Abstract EN
This study aimed to identify behavior modification skills used by mothers of children with intellectual disabilities, and degree of practicing these skills.
It also aimed to recognize difference in the degree of practicing behavior modification methods used by mothers with their children with intellectual disabilities according to variables of: (gender of the child, age of the child, mother's educational level, and social status of the child).
Final sample the study consisted of (120) mothers of children with intellectual disabilities.
To achieve goals of this study, the researcher developed a questionnaire consisting of (24) items about behavior modification skills used by mothers.
Results of the study showed that mothers use behavior modification skills to a medium degree in modifying behavior of their children with intellectual disabilities.
Results also showed that symbolic reinforcement is the most behavior modification method used by mothers, and that mothers use this method to a high degree, then comes the guidance method which is used to a medium degree to modify behavior of children with intellectual disabilities.
Punishment was the least used method in modifying behavior of children with intellectual disabilities.
Results also showed that there were no statistically significant differences in the degree practicing behavior modification methods used by mothers of children with intellectual disabilities attributed to age of the child, educational level of the mother or social status of the child.
Results showed statistically significant differences in the degree of practicing behavior modification methods used by mothers of children with intellectual disabilities related to punitive method attributed to gender of the child and these differences were for females.
