Abstract FRE

The Medina of Constantine is the center of the city and its historical center, it constitutes the memory of this city with all these cultural and social and economic components.

In addition to all these historical and traditional values, commercial activity is considered its main function.

The Medina did not lose until now its vitality and its value as city center.

She always kept her weight being lived and having her commercial activities.

In this research, we analyzed the commercial structure of the Medina in quantitative and qualitative analysis and studied its development, in order to identify the reality of commercial activity in the area of study and understand the most important changes, developments of this function and the influencing factors.

We learned that the commercial function in the Medina has evolved considerably the traditional and modern forms coexist by several factors combined, such as the social and economic changes of the country due to the advanced standard of living and the change in consumer habits of citizens, also the transformation of most of the residential buildings to commercial functions.

In addition to the old and traditional markets that continue to perform their functions, there are new forms of commercial reconstruction in which new polarized activities, such as the phenomenon of "bazaars", which is witnessing a great and continuous development and negatively affected the image and heritage of the Medina.
