English Abstract
Background: The injury is a major global health concern and a major public health problem.
Aim: The aim of this study is to assess functioning, disability and health among injured people in the Great Return Marches in the Gaza Strip by using the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0.
Methods: The researcher used descriptive analytical cross sectional design.
The sample of the study consisted of 373 participants who were injured during the GRM.
For data collection, the researcher used WHO Structured Interview which consisted of 36 items.
For data analysis, SPSS (version 22) was used, and statistical analysis included frequencies, percentage, means, standard deviation, (t) test, and one way ANOVA.
Results: The results showed that patients had sever difficulties in participation and engagement in society (weight mean 52.3, p>0.05).
Getting around, self-care and life activities were moderate level (weight mean 49.7, 31.8, 43.14, p>0.05) respectively, while getting along with people, understanding and communicating were mild level (weight mean 17.09, 19.15, p>0.05) respectively.
Also the results showed that Sociodemographic variables (governorates, education and marital status) were independent factors contribute to disability (M 45.1, F 5.7, p>0.05; M 49.6, F 8.8, p>0.05; M 39.4, t 2.1, p>0.05) respectively.
More over characteristics of injury, type of weapon, site of injury, losses of senses and organs were independent factors contribute to disability (M 37.9, t 3.3, p>0.05; M 40.9, F 2.77, p>0.05; M 45.9, t 4.6, p>0.05) respectively.
Conclusion and Recommendations: In conclusion, the study raised the need to adopt a national disability strategy and plan of action in order to reduce the severity of disability and improve the quality of life among injured people in GS.
