English Abstract
In this thesis, two optical fiber structures were assumed as sensors for detection any variation in the index of refraction of an analyte.
The first structure comprises a Left- Handed Material (LHM) in the core layer whereas the second includes silicon nitride (Si3N4) in the core layer and has a graphene boundary.
In the first structure, the sensitivity was studied with the core radius, frequency of the guided wave, and the parameters of the LHM for TE and TM mode.
Also, the power flowing in each layer of the proposed structures was presented since the fraction of total power flowing in the cladding is a critical parameter for the sensitivity of the sensor.
Sensitivity of TE mode for the second structure was also discussed with core radius, frequency of the guided wave, and the parameters of graphene.
Moreover, with each fiber structure, two analytes were presented : air and water.
The optimal structure corresponding to the maximum sensitivity was found for each sensor.
It is found that using LHM and graphene can improve and enhance the sensitivity.
Finally, we investigate a reflectance-based sensor in which a plasma layer was used.
