English Abstract
Negative-refractive index materials (NIMs) or Metamaterials (MTMs) are novel artificial materials with simultaneously negative permittivity and permeability and usually called left-handed materials (LHMs).
During the last decades, much increasing attention has been paid to these materials for various applications but only recently, they have been implemented and applied to solar energy or solar cells.
Solar energy is energy coming from the sun.
Every day the sun radiates huge amount of energy.
Photovoltaic are solar cells that produce electricity directly from sunlight.
The solar cells are made of thin layers of material usually silicon.
Waveguides can have similar properties as photovoltaic cell and converting the energy of light directly into electricity by the photovoltaic effect.
The reduction in reflection or increasing the transmission from the surface of the waveguide has attracted many researchers due to their properties in solar energy.
New kind of waveguide for the solar spectrum has been designed and analyzed in order to utilize the solar energy more effectively.
Design of multi-layers antireflection coating made from metamaterials are investigated using some mathematical approaches.
Some waveguide structures containing metamaterials are proposed and investigated.
In this work, the effects of antireflection coating on the performance of NIMs in proposed waveguides are theoretically investigated.
The main goal is to find out and design new solar waveguide structure containing metamaterials in order to increase solar cell efficiency.
The optical matrix (transfer matrix and scattering matrix) approach is implemented in our simulation and computation.
The MAPLE software has been used.
We believe that the proposed waveguide will give high efficiency in solar energy applications.
