English Abstract

Last Planner System is considered one of the modern research areas that are adopted in construction industry.

It is defined as a production planning tool used to improve the reliability of the workflow.

In order to gain the expected reliability, constraints during production planning must be identified and removed so that the necessary materials, information and equipment are ensured to be available.

This practice is applicable throughout the last planner system.

The aim of this research is to improve and enhance the awareness and understanding of the applicability of last planner concept in the Gaza construction industry.

The objectives of this research are to identify the key factors supporting the applicability of last planner concepts in construction projects, to investigate the proper tools/techniques that can be conducted effectively in last planner system, to determine the benefits through implement the last planner system, and to identify the challenges/barriers of last planner system.

This research adopted fundamentally on analytical, descriptive and field study methodologies.

The first tactic is by reviewing the previous studies and literatures in this area.

The second tactic was a questionnaire which targeted the construction industry companies.

A questionnaire was applied on a sample of 98 contracting companies.

Collected data was analyzed and results were explained.

The results showed that “Close relationship with subcontractors" and "Top management support” are the main factors that affect the applicability of last planner principles in the Gaza strip.

Use of visual devices to spread information in the construction site”, “Attendance of key actors” and “Look ahead plan” tools are considered the most important tools that will support last planner adaptation.

The study recommended several actions to improve the last planner system.

Such as, the contractors must choose the subcontractor according to his expertise, and competence.

Also recommended the contractors to held intensive training course in last planner system tools and management practices to develop skills and experience for managers and staffs.
