English Abstract

Passenger Car Equivalent (PCE) or Passenger Car Unit (PCU) is used in highway capacity analysis to convert a mixed vehicle flow into an equivalent passenger car flow.

PCE value for a vehicle is not a constant value, but it varies with traffic and roadway conditions around.

In this study, Passenger Car Equivalent (PCE) for Motorcycles and ThreeWheelers were developed at signalized intersections in Gaza City, Palestine.

Data were collected at three signalized intersections in Gaza City: AL-Samir, Asqoula and Baghdad Intersections, using a digital video camera.

Headway Method was used to calculate the PCE values.

In Gaza City, PCE value was found to be 0.42 and 0.69 for Motorcycles and for Three-Wheelers, respectively.

The appropriate statistical tests were used to examine the significance of the differences among PCE values in Gaza, Ghana and the UK.

The main findings of this research showed that no significant difference was found between PCE values for motorcycles between Gaza and the UK.

However, a significant difference was found between PCE values for motorcycles between Gaza and Ghana.

On the other hand, no significant difference was found between PCE values for three-wheelers between Gaza and Ghana.

The researcher recommends adapting a PCE value of 0.40 and a value of 0.67 for local use for motorcycles and three-Wheelers, respectively.
