Abstract EN
Desertification, according to UN literature, is a process through which all soil degradation, natural landscape and terrestrial bio-system are damaged.
It is an outcome of both climatic fluctuations and human mal-use of natural resources.
This means that desertification has both natural and cultural basis.
It dominates all arid, semi-arid and sub-humid areas, part of which is Bisha Province, the arena of this research.
Such factors work together to change an area into desert, although it never before part of which.
Drought is the machine by which desertification is pushed forward.
This is plus aridity that dominates the research area.
The researcher adopts an environmental approach tackling the research problem.
Alike, a methodology that mingles analysis and synthesis modes deems most appropriate dealing with interpreting the collected data.
Data have been collected from different sources, i.e.: Primary, secondary and tertiary.
Primary data is the crux of informative sources.
Some soil samples, measurements and others have been attained from this source, while secondary sources provide all climatic and other forms of statistics, maps, satellite imagery as well as official reports.
Tertiary data deem appropriate formulating the research theoretical setting.
All the collected data have been analyzed at different levels and by different means, mainly mechanical, to produce both visual information and literal ones.
Both of them are of great importance in stimulating facts and in giving evidences for these facts.
The outcome is the research main results: It has been found that desertification has devastating and incurable effects on the research area, which some of them are irreversible: Such effects include: Aquifers recharge impeding, Soil infertility, limited biodiversity, sand dunes creep over agricultural lands, lower per unit of land productivity, crop production both per unit of land reduction and diversity restriction.
This is plus other environmental and socio-economic repercussions.
