English Abstract

The asphalt layer is the most important layer of paving layers and is the last layer and consists of of different size of aggregate and bonding materials which is bitumen .

Over the past few years, the Gaza Strip has suffered many wars that have left a large amount of rubble, which has a negative effect on the environment, Which should be studied ways of disposal of it.

Therefore, the addition of crushed (recycled) sand to the asphalt mixture was studied to get rid of it and reduce the cost of the asphalt mixture .

This study aims to determine the optimum ratio of recycled sand to be introduced to the asphalt mixture while maintaining or improving the mechanical properties of the mixture, lower cost per unit.

Those parameters are Stability, Density, Flow, Voids Mineral Aggregate (VMA), Air Voids Content (Va) and Voids Filled with Bitumen (VFB) in asphalt mixtures.

In these study number of tests is implemented on bitumen such as softening, penetration, and ductility tests and on aggregate such as: sieve analysis , specific gravity, absorption, unit weight, are conducted, Marshal samples are tests to investigate the properties of the asphalt mix; stability and flow .

an aggregate blending procedure was implemented to properly select the various ratios of each aggregate in the asphalt mixture .

the optimum bitumen content (OBC) is determined without adding crushed sand four percentage of bitumen were evaluated, e.g., 5%, 5.5%, 6% and 6.5%, in order to determine the optimum bitumen content for every percent three sample eas tested and the optimum percent was 5.4% And considered as control data to be compared with when adding the crushed sand at various amounts.

Six percentages of crushed sand ( recycled) examined to determine the best percentage of recycled sand, ) 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 45% and 12.5%) while 45% is the maximum Trabia content and three sample was tested for evry percentage .

in which, crushed (recycled) sand content of 12.5% yielded the optimum results in terms of properties, i.e., stability, bulk density and air voids.
